 आदिवासी समुदाय में संस्कृति परंपराओं, सामाजिक, राजनीतिक, आर्थिक स्थिति में हर क्षेत्र में विभिन्नता औरों से अलग पाई जाती हैं। जहां जहां आदिवासी जीवित हैं वहां अभी तक आदिवासी कि संस्कृति एवं परंपरा देखने को मिलता है। आदिवासी का जीवनयापन करने का तौर तरीका भी अलग अलग होता है, हालांकि हर आदिवासी क्षेत्र दिखने को मिलता है लेकिन विभिन्न विभिन्न समुदायों में विभिन्न विभिन्न भाषाओं बोले जाने के कारण उस तौर तरीका को विभिन्न नामों से जाने जाते हैं।।

झुम एक प्रकार के खेती के तरीके का नाम है जो परांपरागत तरीके से कृषि किया जाता है,जो हमारे पूर्वजों द्वारा जंगलों को आग लगा कर साफ करते हैं और फिर उसमें कृषि का कार्य किया जाता है। प्रत्येक वर्ष इस तरह के नई जमीनें बनाईं जाती है खेती करने के लिए!!

इस तरह के खेती अधिकांश जंगलों में छोटे-छोटे भूखंडों पर की जाती है।घने जंगलों व पहाड़ों होने के कारण सुरज की किरणें पहुंच नहीं पाती हैं, जिससे वे लोग सूर्य की किरणें को पहुंचने के लिए पेड़ों के ऊपरी हिस्सा काट देते हैं और जमीन पर उगी घास -भूसा जलाकर साफ कर देतें है। इसके बाद वे घास -भूसा को जलने पर पैदा हुए राख को खाली जमीन पर छिड़क देते हैं। इस राख में पोटाश की
